Leaving OurHome
OurHome went quiet. Your chore system doesn't have to.
OurHome earned real loyalty by making chores-for-points work for families. As of July 2026 its apps are delisted from the stores and its service no longer responds — families who built their routine on it are stranded mid-system. Docalen covers the same ground, free, and runs in any browser, so the household is back up tonight.
| Feature | Docalen | OurHome |
|---|---|---|
| Chores with points | Free — plus parent verification and rotation | The feature OurHome was loved for |
| Rewards kids work toward | Free — points, prizes and goals | Included, while it worked |
| Shared family calendar | Free — with Google Calendar sync | Included, while it worked |
| Grocery list | Free — real-time, sorted by aisle | Included, while it worked |
| Still maintained | Actively developed | Delisted from the app stores; service unreachable |
Rebuilding your OurHome setup in Docalen
- Create the family, share one link. Whoever opens it joins — kids included, no email address required for managed family members.
- Recreate the chore list. Recurring chores come back on their own schedule, rotate between kids automatically, and carry a points value. The app sends the nudge so you don't have to.
- Turn points into prizes. Set up the rewards your kids were working toward — points land when a chore is done (and, if you want, only after a parent verifies it).
- Bring back the calendar and groceries. The shared calendar, aisle-sorted grocery list and meal plan live in the same app, so the whole routine is in one place this time.
Why this won't happen to you twice
Nothing protects any app from shutting down — but you can pick for resilience. Docalen runs in the browser, so it isn't hostage to an app store listing; the core family features are free rather than dependent on a paywall conversion; and your account and data are deletable from Settings, with an export available on request — it stays yours either way.
The honest caveat
OurHome was free and beloved, and some of its little touches were unique. Docalen's chore loop is opinionated in its own way — points come with optional parent verification, and delegation comes with nudges. If your family ran a very different system on OurHome, try Docalen with one week of chores first and see if the loop fits before moving everything over.
Try it with your family
Free for the whole household — works in any browser, no install needed to join.
